Padangustasana

Meaning :  Pada-foot; Angusta- the big toePadangustasana
                   In this posture, the big toe is held by three fingers
 
Procedure:
Stand erectly. Join the toes and keep the hands on other side of the body. Vision should be in the front. While inhaling, move the right leg one foot towards right. As you exhale, bend forward, hold the toes by fingers and touch the face to the knees. Keep your eyes closed and breathe normally a few times. Inhale, stand erectly and look forward. While exhaling, join the right leg to the left to form normal standing posture.
 
Benefits:
  • This asana effectively massages the internal organs
  • The secretion of the digestive juices get enhanced
  • Liver and spleen are activated
  • Excellent practice for those suffering from gastric troubles
  • Helpful in relieving constipation
  • Reduces excess weight around abdominal organs
  • Blood circulation is improved
  • Skeletal muscles of thighs, legs and shoulders are strengthened
Limitations:
 
  • People suffering from severe back problems should avoid bending the belly completely during this asana
  • Not advisable for heart patients and those suffering from hypertension
  • Women shouldn’t practice this during menstruation and pregnancy
