Umang – Our Theatre Initiative

A THEATRE INITIATIVE BY MRITYUNJAYA

What is Umang?

• Umang is a set of theater programs drafted & designed specially for those employed in the corporate sector.
• The idea behind creation of “Umang” is therapy through theater.
• The problems of stress, anxiety, depression, relationship hassles are all part of the dilemma of multiple existences, especially in the urban areas. These need to be addressed in a lesser obvious & more practical way to be able to deal with it.

Why Deal with the issues?

• Any employee that is suffering with a psychological problem cannot be an asset to his team or to the organization.
• Personal issues that one faces are also brought to the office & the repercussions are to be faced by the entire team.
• A happy employee is not just an asset to the organization but also an inspiration for the staff.

Symptoms of Stress:

Physical - Hypertension, Obesity, Diabetes, IBS – Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Respiratory problems, Alcoholism, Smoking

Mental – Stress, Anxiety, Lack of concentration, Demeaned performance

Emotional – Depression, Relationship issues, Hyper-sensitivity, Dissatisfaction,Anger

Spiritual - Fear, Lack of faith, Lost to find the “meaning of life”

Why Theatre?

Going by the very famous philosophical words of William Shakespeare:

“All the world’s a stage,

And all the men and women merely players

They have their exits and their entrances;

And one man in his time plays many parts”

By staging a play we actually create a world where the players are assigned their roles based on the functionalities of that world. This story further defines their function, their movements, establishes relationships, cultivates unity & above all certifies the significance of each person in that story. The analogy between our life & the simple play we stage further expands the point of view with which we understand life. This broadens one’s perspective, quite literally & with this, the approach to life changes.

Our approach is pretty unique & well planned. With theater we can manage to bring forth such strong characters in every person & also help him/her to come out as much more confident, creative & complete.
