Vakrasana


Meaning:   Vakra – twisted
                   In this asana, spine is twisted.
Vakrasana

 Procedure:

Sit on the floor, legs stretched straight and palms beside the body. Inhaling, bend the right leg up by knee, facing up. Now exhale and keep the right leg on the left side. Keeping the right foot beside the left knee, keep the right hand on the ground. Then,bring the left hand and cover the right leg. Look back from the right side. breathe normally a few times. Inhaling, turn to front releasing the hands and keep the left leg on the left side. Exhale, stretch the left leg, and resume  normal sitting posture.

 Benefits:

  • Elasticity of the spine improves
  • Tones up the nerves of the spine
  • Loss of appetite and problems like constipation can be cured
  • It is useful asana for diabetic patients
  • Removes excess fat around waist
  • Good practice for improving the conditions of drooping shoulders
  • Tones up the kidneys
  • Urinary problems also can be cured

      I am a regular yoga practitioner. Learned yoga & pranayam in 1974 at Kaivalyadham Lonavla Pune. Maintaining sound health at 65. Besides I am a yoga teacher also. Conducted free camps at my Home Town Lucknow. Presently I am in NOIDA.
      I find Mrityunjaya a very good site for those who have inclination towards yoga as therapy. Thanks for the contribution.
